February 01 2010
We are pleased to announce that papers for our Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) have been posted or emailed to members to enable you to vote on a number of measures that we believe will strengthen .uk and the domain name industry.
The EGM will be held on Wednesday 24 February 2010 at 11.00am at the Hilton London Olympia hotel.
If you do not receive a copy of the mailing, please send an email to

Why we need to change
Last year, the Government informed Nominet that if self-regulation of the UK’s domain name industry were to continue, we needed to update our constitution and reaffirm our commitment to our wider public purpose. In response, we commissioned an independent review and from that developed a number of changes to put forward to a formal member vote. At each stage, we have sought your views and incorporated your feedback into the next stage.
If your view of Nominet is that 'it just works' and you are happy with the way we operate and the services we provide for you, then it is crucial you express that support with a positive vote on the changes we are proposing. Without significant membership support, the Government has expressed its intention to intervene and regulate Nominet and the domain name industry. The result will be increased red tape and the erosion of members' business interests.
